Jung Yeon Kim
Violist Jung Yeon Kim
began playing the violin when she was eight and was accepted to the
Juilliard School Pre-College Division at the age of fourteen. She
continued her education as a violinist, receiving her bachelor’s degree
in violin at Juilliard, and after switching to viola, received her
master’s degree in viola there as well. Recipient of many awards, she
won the Juilliard Pre- College Concerto Competition and the Wal-gan
Competition.
Ms. Kim has appeared
as soloist with the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra, Peabody Orchestra,
and the Korea Philharmonic. An avid chamber musician, she was invited
to perform at the Salle de Gaveau in Paris, Cadogan Hall in London, the
Kennedy Center, Avery Fischer Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Jordan Hall, and
Carnegie Hall. She has also made solo appearances at the Juilliard
School, Aspen Music Festival, Courchevel Music Festival, Meadowmount
Music Festival, Kneisel Hall Music Festival, Great Mountains
International Music Festival, and for the Ort Castle Gala Concert and
Belgian Embassy Benefit Ceremony.
As a chamber musician
Ms. Kim performed at the Aspen Music Festival, Carnegie Hall, Alice
Tully Hall, Paul Hall, the French Alliance in New York City, and the
Santa Barbara Festival. As a member of the internationally acclaimed
chamber orchestra Sejong Soloists, she was invited as a cultural
ambassador to tour South America, where she performed in the Dominican
Republic, Costa Rica, and Colombia. In 2004, as a member of the Hudson
String Quartet, Ms. Kim received the Honors Ensemble Award at the New
England Conservatory, where she received her artist diploma. In the
summer of 2005 and 2006 she participated in the Point Counterpoint
Music Festival as an artist and faculty member. Ms. Kim has been
collaborating with artists in other fields, including performing with
the well-known dancers of the Korean traditional ensemble Lim. She also
collaborated with Alice Walker, author of The Color Purple.
